Looking for a relaxing spot for a hot cup of joe? Rooster Coffee House is a great spot to kick back, have a drink, do some reading, or take out if you are on the run. They have all kinds of hot drinks, as well as some fresh snacks and other refreshments. They are located on King East so if you’re using transit, the accessible King streetcars roll right past.

The entrance is right off the sidewalk on King, so there is no patio. But there is a bench facing the street outside if you’re looking to get some fresh air while enjoying your drink. The sidewalk is level pavement leading to the front door, which is 37 inches wide and includes no automatic door opener. Inside the front door there is a slight grade upwards (approx. 1:12) and then it is all one level. The flooring is all hardwood, however they do put mats down around high traffic areas. There is lots of room for turning space, or to leave mobility devices at the front entrance.

Once you have your order from the front counter, you can choose from a few seating areas. At the front window, there is bar style counters with movable seating which are 36 inches high. There are also areas with low coffee tables and comfortable couches and cushioned seats. Or there is a large high top table 39 inches high that also has movable bar stool seats.

The washroom is at the back down the wide hallway. There is a lever handle on the door that is 34 inches wide, but no automatic door button. It is a private washroom with lots of space. There is grab bars behind and beside the toilet, as well as a floating sink 29 inches high that has space underneath. The sink and toilet are not automatic.

With the large windows in the front, there is lots of light and there is no loud music which helps keep the mood nice and low-key. The drink menu is up on a large chalkboard in the entrance with white letters on black providing great contrast. There is even dog treats available if you have a hungry service animal!

Rooster Coffee House also has a location at 568 Jarvis St. but we did not actually visit this location so we cannot comment on its accessibility. However, the staff stated that it is in fact accessible and includes a washroom with automatic door openers and emergency assistance button for the staff. Take your pick!
