Blackjack BBQ or bust. Open since spring of 2018, Blackjack offers epic southern style bbq, a variety of bourbons, delicious cocktails and you won’t leave hungry. A cozy spot that is well set up for accessibility.
The restaurant is located at the corner of Gerrard Avenue East and Galt Avenue, where there is a curb cut-out at the intersection. You can take the 306 or 506 buses which both stop at Marjory Avenue, one block west of the restaurant. There is parking available on the streets directly surrounding the restaurant.
If stopping by during warmer weather, there is a patio that you will need to access from an entrance on Galt Ave as the entrance to the patio from inside the restaurant has a step. There are moveable chairs at some tables as well as bench seating. The tables are standard 29” height and the patio surface is level concrete.
For the main entrance, the sidewalk is unobstructed and level. There is a ½” threshold at the entrance and the door is 35” wide with no automatic door opener. There is limited space to park a scooter or accessibility device at the entrance.
Inside, there is ample turning space and ability to navigate around tables and easily access the washrooms at the back of the restaurant. There is bar seating with moveable stools and the majority of tables are high-top. Fortunately, there are a few standard 29” high tables that you can call and reserve.
The entire restaurant is one level with smooth, tiled flooring. Aligned with the character of the restaurant, there is a set of swinging saloon doors that lead you to the hallway (45” wide) to the accessible washroom. The washroom door is 35” with a lever handle, but no automatic door opener. The size of the accessible washroom is approximately 70” by 70”, providing adequate space. The washroom includes grab bars beside and behind the toilet, a floating sink 29” high, and manual soap and paper dispensers mounted nearby.
The menu is black type on white background, so easy enough to choose which southern comfort dills your pickle. The staff are friendly, attentive and helpful. The music is also kept at a low enough level so that you can easily have a conversation.
