Open for only three months, Vacay.ca has already announced that it may be the best restaurant in Canada! Not sure I have enough credibility toput forth an opinion on the food, but the design of The Chase is equally beautiful as it is accessible.
This new financial district hot spot is made up of the 5th floor rooftop restaurant, The Chase and the main floor seafood inspired, The Chase Fish & Oyster. The same number is used to make reservations for either restaurant. This is probably the best time to mention that the underground parking lot to the Bay & Adelaide Centre neighbours The Chase where there are several accessible parking spots available with elevator access to the street. Please note: once you take the elevator to the ground level, you will need to take the Richmond St. exit as I noticed that the Temperance St. exit has a flight of stairs to the sidewalk. Would it have hurt to install a ramp? I guess only one ramp to Richmond St. was in the city's budget...if taking transit, the wheelchair friendly Queen subway station is two blocks away.
So now onto the restaurant:
The main entrance offers automatic openers which allow entry to The Chase Fish & Oyster. Here the hostesses greet you and assist you to your table or the elevator nearby if you have reservations for The Chase. As mentioned, the more upscale rooftop restaurant is on the 5th floor and can be accessed by a large elevator. The elevator is approximately 7x6 ft with 42 inch doors and buttons 42 inches from the floor. Both spaces offer wide pathways, no level changes, and numerous standard height tables. I visited on a Wednesday night and did note as the night went on that the space in front of the bars was crowded, so I will caution that this place gets VERY busy.
Both floors offer private accessible washrooms with similar features: 36 inch door, straight handles, automatic toilets, 2 grab bars, and floating sinks 29 inches from the floor. The location of the washroom is obvious at The Chase, but you may need to ask for directions at the Fish & Oyster as it is tucked away beside the bar.
An impressive feature of the restaurant would also be the large outdoor patio options in both spaces. The recent weather changes will unfortunately lead to their closures, but now I have another reason to look forward to Spring in Toronto :)
